Make sure to stop at Pilot Monument where offers you a birds eye view of Yellowknife!. Go and explore the Dettah ice road. (Depends on the weather) In March, you can travel to the unique Ice castle as well.

Indigenous Cultural Aurora Viewing Tour

Drive from Yellowknife city to Dettah (Dene community) on the ice road, weather permitting. Spend 3 to 4 hours viewing the spectacular northern lights on the shoreline of Great Slave lake in a wood-stove cabin. Authentic northern snacks and hot beverages are served. Traditional indigenous drumming will also be performed as you learn more about the Dene way of life through history, language and connection to the land.
  • 4 hours of viewing starting at either 9:00 p.m.–1:00 a.m. or 10:00 p.m.-2:00 a.m.
  • The price includes round-trip transportation to the aurora viewing site.
  • Complimentary hot drink and traditionally fire cooked fish is served.

Nature Viewing and Snowmobile Tour

See the back country in authentic northern style as you drive a snowmobile through the wilderness on thickly forested trails and atop the frozen Great Slave Lake. Take in the awe-inspiring scenery and take stunning photos along the way. Snowmobile gear is included.

Hand contour a glass container and turn it into glassware. The glassware is hand cut, ground and polished from your experiences in the Canadian subarctic where you can use the local animals, landscape and northern lights as added inspiration. Alaskan Husky Dog Sledding Tour

The dogsledding adventure takes you across pristine frozen lakes and through beautiful forested portages. You will be guided by the experienced indigenous dog mushers that show you harnessing the dogs and setting up the dog team while telling stories of their ancestors. Ending your tour at the heated camp with hot beverages and fresh Bannock.

Indigenous Ice Fishing demonstration Tour on Great Slave Lake (Net Fishing)

Hop in a warm track machine which takes you overtop the frozen surface of Great Slave Lake so you can take in the rare and stunning beauty that makes the north so magical. You'll also learn about the pressure ridges that create the impressive ice heaves.
To top it off, you'll watch a demonstration of commercial fishery and sample the catch. Enjoy the fresh fish with lovely complementing wild herb tea.

If the commercial fishery demonstration cannot fulfill your curiosity and wonder about ice fishing, you can try your luck in fishing by yourself! (Fishing license is not included. It would be CAD 12 + 5% / Guest)

Fat Bike Tours

Fat Bikes were pioneered and developed out of Alaska's back in the 1980's snow and the sands of New Mexico in the 1980's . These radical new types of bikes, with 4 to 5 inch wide tires, are able to take people over rock, sand, snow and ice.
  • 1 fat bike of appropriate size
  • Adjustable helmet
  • Winter gloves
  • Cycling gloves
  • Mid-ride snack break including beverage
  • Optional photo package depending on photographer availability
  • Optional finish destination of your choice. (We will pick up the bikes)

  • Full payment must be received 30 days prior to the client’s arrival
  • Cancel in 45 days or more prior to arrival - 100% refund.
  • 31-44 days prior to arrival - 50% cancellation fee of the total price
  • 30 days or less prior to arrival - 100% cancellation fee of the total price

  • Yellowknife Tours reserves the right to cancel any tour due to circumstances beyond its control. Such circumstances may include, but are not limited to, poor weather conditions or charter flight irregularities.

Hunting for a good spot to view aurora, we will drive you to different lakes in our quest. The lakes provide the perfect reflective surface for aurora, further enhancing the viewing. Four hours of viewing start around 10:30 pm and end at 2:30 am.
